Semaglutide belongs to a class of medications called GLP-1 receptor agonists. This article is an educational overview of how this drug class works and what the consultation and prescription process at Regen Doctors involves. It is not intended to suggest that any specific outcome will occur for any patient.
What Is a GLP-1 Receptor Agonist?
GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) is a hormone naturally released by the gut in response to food intake. It acts on receptors in the brain, pancreas, and digestive tract — influencing appetite signaling, gastric motility, and insulin response. GLP-1 receptor agonists are synthetic molecules designed to bind to and activate these receptors.
Semaglutide is FDA-approved under the brand names Ozempic (for type 2 diabetes management) and Wegovy (for chronic weight management in qualifying adults). Compounded semaglutide formulations are separate products and are not FDA-approved.
About Compounded Semaglutide
Regen Doctors offers compounded semaglutide formulations prepared by licensed partner pharmacies. These are not FDA-approved products. The FDA has not evaluated these specific compounded formulations for safety, effectiveness, or quality. Patients should understand that compounded medications are distinct from commercially manufactured, FDA-approved drug products.
The regulatory landscape for compounded GLP-1 medications has changed significantly. Patients are encouraged to review current FDA guidance and ask their provider about the implications for their care.
Available Formats at Regen Doctors
- Semaglutide + B6 & B12 Oral Melts (Troches): A sublingual oral formulation. B12 and Pyridoxine (B6) are added; however, there are currently no clinical studies demonstrating the effectiveness of B6 or B12 when used in combination with semaglutide. Not FDA-approved.
- Semaglutide Submagna (Sublingual Oral): A sublingual drop formulation compounded with added ingredients. Not FDA-approved.
- Injectable Semaglutide: A subcutaneous injection format, the delivery method most studied in pivotal clinical trials for the FDA-approved branded versions.
The Consultation and Prescription Process
Whether semaglutide is appropriate for any individual is a clinical determination made solely by a licensed medical provider. Patients must complete a medical questionnaire and a telemedicine consultation before any prescription is issued. Regen Doctors does not guarantee that a prescription will be issued. Prescriptions are provided only when a licensed provider determines that therapy is clinically appropriate for that patient.
Individual Variation and Realistic Expectations
Patient responses to any medication vary significantly and depend on many factors including individual physiology, adherence, lifestyle, and medical history. No weight-loss outcome is guaranteed. Semaglutide is intended to be used as part of a comprehensive approach to weight management that includes dietary and lifestyle changes, as directed by a healthcare provider.
