The Regenerative Medicine Treatment Process
As mentioned before, Regenerative Medicine is prepared from the patient’s own blood. It entails a simple blood draw, after which the sample is placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelets and plasma from the rest of the blood. This is then injected into the areas stricken with pain. At the treatment site, Regenerative Medicine promotes the growth of fibrin scaffolds, a natural structure that allows for the body’s own natural healing processes, promoting cell growth and tissue regeneration.
For stem cells, the substance is harvested from bone marrow or fatty tissue. Then, using ultrasound or X-ray guidance, the stem cells are then injected into the areas of concern. These promote healing as stem cells can then develop into other more specialized types of cells, such as those comprising muscle, bone or tendon. So as these injected stem cells start differentiating, they repair the damage or injury at the site.
These treatments are performed on an outpatient basis with local anesthetic. Light sedation may also be utilized. As they are outpatient procedures, downtime is minimum.
