Living with neck pain can be a frustrating and exhausting experience. The constant discomfort can make it hard to focus on anything else and can affect your ability to do the things you enjoy. But you don’t have to suffer in silence. There are options available to help you find relief and improve your quality of life. One of these options is Medial Branch Blocks (MBB) and we’re offering this treatment at Regen Doctors.
There are many reasons for neck pain, from poor posture and muscle strains to injuries like whiplash. Sometimes, degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis or cervical herniated discs can also be the reason behind neck pain. Even everyday stress and tension can contribute to neck pain by causing muscle spasms and tightening.
In rarer cases, underlying health conditions such as fibromyalgia, spinal stenosis, or rheumatoid arthritis may also play a role in causing neck pain. Whatever the cause of your neck pain may be, it’s important to address it so you can live your best quality of life.
Medial Branch Block (MBB) is a type of pain management treatment that involves injecting a local anesthetic and steroid medication into the tiny medial nerves that transmit pain signals from the facet joints of the spine to the brain. By blocking these nerves, the pain signals are interrupted or blocked, providing temporary relief from neck pain.
It’s usually done as an outpatient procedure and takes about less than an hour. You’ll lie down on a table, and your doctor will clean the injection site and numb it with a local anesthetic. Using X-ray guidance, he will insert a needle into the area around the medial nerve. After the injection, you’ll be monitored for a little while to make sure there aren’t any bad reactions. A medial branch block effectively reduces inflammation and irritation in the joints of the spine, and patients often experience immediate pain relief.
If you’re thinking about trying MBB for neck pain relief, it’s important to find a qualified pain specialist who can perform the procedure. Our medical director, Dr. Gene Levinstein, is a board-certified pain management specialist with over three decades of experience in the field.
We have clinics in Allentown and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. We serve patients in Center Valley, Lansdale, Easton, Pottstown, Phillipsburg, and the Maryland area, including Westminster, Leesburg, and Green Valley.
